In Case you Needed this Reminder: Jesus is Enough

“Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

I flopped onto my bed as exhaustion crept in, and without my consent the tears began to flow. The last season has held more questions than answers, more stress than fun, and more challenges than victories. I haven’t known what to do with that. As much as I want the scales to tip in the other direction
.they haven’t yet and at times it feels like I want a breakthrough more than anything else.

Yet, nothing seems to break.

Do you ever feel like that?

Jesus doesn’t always give us the answers, breakthrough or results we want, but the one thing he is never short to supply is himself. The question is, can we let that be enough?

Sometimes we want the pain to end, but we have to go ahead and have the surgery anyway.

Sometimes we want to be delivered, but we still have to charge into battle.

And sometimes we have to choose to trust, even as the tears fall.

At this time of year, it seems a lot within us goes on public display. Our family triggers us, our friends frustrate us. Plans change. Jobs morph and we find ourselves upended, in the midst of a lot of uncertainty. I’m right there with you friends. Even if we can’t get everything to work out, we have to work through it as life sojourns on. What if the answer isn’t in just getting through? What if the reminder that we really need is that it is OK to ask the hard questions. It’s OK to be confused. And it’s OK to find ourselves in a place where we are insufficient for what lays ahead. Our insufficiency propels us on to depend on the sufficiency of Jesus.

Because maybe, just maybe, what we are really struggling for in all of those things isn’t just that we supernaturally get our ducks in a row. Instead, its that we need to see that Jesus is enough, regardless of what we are facing. His grace is enough. We are going to be weak, insufficient and feel powerless. Those seemingly insurmountable circumstances are the invitation, for us to discover the “enoughness” of Jesus. His grace and power are abundant, even in our lack.

And that my friends, is the answer that we were truly looking for all along. With everything I am facing is Jesus enough? Yes sweet friend, he truly is.

My prayer for all of us as we head into this next season is this: That Jesus would eclipse whatever we feel like is eclipsing us. That we would see his power is perfected in our weakness, not negated. And when all is said and done our hearts would worship him, in wholeheartedly surrender, because Jesus alone is enough.

So much love,

Joy
